We’ll never ever tire of saying it: drug use must be responsible and safe, both for the user and those around them. And you should always, always label your substances properly. Such a lesson was learned the hard way by none other than Zoë Kravitz. The American actress, director, and singer had already mentioned using weed on the regular, but she has also talked about another mind-bending substance. In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, she and her co-star Austin Butler took a lie detector test to promote their new film, Caught Stealing. One of the questions Kravitz asked was…

On a quiet slope between San Bernardo and Conde Duque, the building at Noviciado 7 has stood for more than two centuries, silently watching Madrid change around it. Built in the 18th century, its nearly meter-thick stone walls have contained many lives: Jesuit novices in prayer, market vendors selling fish, whispered meetings during the Franco regime, and even plans for a sauna that never opened.  Today, it houses N7A, a private members’ club that blends cannabis culture, coworking, art, and technology. This is not just the story of a building; it is the story of how history, community, and a…

I still keep, in my phone’s notepad, the list of strains I smoked and the coffeeshops where I scored them—a personal archive of Amsterdam’s green bounty. I made that pilgrimage in April 2015, spending fifteen days on my own with one simple mission: hit as many coffeeshops as I could and, of course, do what stoners do best—smoke until our terpy desires feel fully satisfied.  By then, it had been nearly forty years since the Dutch legalized possession and quietly tolerated cannabis sales, and Amsterdam was still the stoner’s holy land. Sure, 2015 wasn’t the wild, golden haze of the…

Colin Fraser’s life has been punctuated by moments that could have ended him. He was shot eight times. He was wrongly incarcerated on cannabis-related charges. He came home with scars, a record, and the weight of proving himself in a society that rarely forgives. What he did next, however, changed everything. He was looking to build something larger than himself. Caring for his mother during her cancer treatment, Fraser witnessed the gaps in medical cannabis access firsthand: how older patients were ignored in outreach, how little guidance existed beyond trial and error, and how isolated people felt navigating medicine without…

I tiptoed through a creaky hallway overlaid with vinyl, careful as if not to wake sleeping parents. Sock-footed in solidarity, the sixty or so people inside The Berkeley Alembic filled a humble conference room already buzzing. Five minutes late, I slid into a chair just as the contact high hit—was I being possessed?  It was clear from the start of the “jam-sesh,” an installment of the monthly psychedelic salon called The Chalice, that the flight from the corn-sweat-tinged dairylands of Wisconsin was going to be worth it. It’s no secret: weed, whether medicinal or recreational, is wonderful. It’s good for a great number of things, and it makes you feel good. But you know what they say about ‘too much of a good thing’: problematic cannabis use does exist, though it can be overcome with effort and perseverance. The latest celebrity to learn this cold truth is Scott Mescudi, better known as Kid Cudi, who has just published an autobiography recounting the experiences that shaped his career. Among those experiences is his problematic cannabis use and the rehabilitation that led him to a healthier relationship with the…

Members of the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission have approved additional regulations limiting patients’ ability to access medical cannabis products. The passage of the new rules, which await final approval from Republican Gov. Jim Pillen, mark the latest effort by regulators to undermine the state’s 2024 voter-approved medical cannabis access law, which Nebraskans supported by a margin of more than 2 to 1. Previous rules approved by the Commission in July repeal patients’ access to botanical cannabis, limit the total number of state-licensed dispensaries to no more than twelve, and require physicians to specify which cannabis formulation, potency, and dose is appropriate…
