    / TOP THINGS TO KNOW

A press release from the office of Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) claims the White House supports his new bill to keep hemp THC products legal—but while President Donald Trump does want to reverse the impending broad federal recriminalization of hemp, an administration official declined to back the specific legislation.

    • Sources told Marijuana Moment that the White House takes issue with the Barr bill’s provisions on inhalable hemp products.

The House of Representatives passed National Defense Authorization Act amendments to extend a military psychedelics research program for an additional six years and to codify provision of a psychedelics executive order signed by President Donald Trump—but separate proposals on marijuana test waivers for recruits and access to Schedule I drugs under “Right to Try” were blocked from receiving votes.

California Treasurer Fiona Ma (D) announced she will be convening a hearing on marijuana businesses’ banking access issues next week.

The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America is backing a new bill in Congress to keep hemp THC products legal, saying cannabis drinks “should be treated like beverage alcohol”—but arguing that the legislation’s tax provisions need “continued discussion.”

A new study of cancer survivors found that “about a fifth used CBD, primarily for symptom relief of distress (stress, anxiety, or depression), sleep, pain, and neuropathy, and more than half of survivors reported at least some benefit for each concern.”
