President Donald Trump signed a spending bill to end the government shutdown that contains provisions to recriminalize hemp THC products—with the ban set to take effect in one year—even though he previously signed legislation to legalize the products in 2018.
The House Rules Committee blocked an amendment from Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) that would have saved hemp products from recriminalization, while Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said lawmakers should work on crafting “balanced, science-based regulation” in the year before the ban takes effect.
Vice President JD Vance, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other top Trump administration officials attended a “Make America Healthy Again” summit featuring a session on the therapeutic potential of psychedelics.
A new poll of Florida likely voters found that 89 percent believe “voters should have the right to vote on if Adult Personal Use of Marijuana should be allowed or not allowed in this state”—rather than leaving the issue to politicians to decide.
A new study found that “high-intensity cannabis use is linked to higher relationship satisfaction among women” but that “men reported the opposite.”

A spokesperson for Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said federally recriminalizing hemp products will “hurt the state’s small businesses” and that she “believes efforts by Congress to regulate hemp products should account for states like Minnesota that already have strong regulations in place.”
New Jersey’s Senate president filed a bill to let medical marijuana dispensaries conduct recreational sales without local approval, loosen ethics requirements for the Cannabis Regulatory Commission and strip the governor of the power to name its chair.

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) tweeted that a police officer once told him, “nobody ever beat the shit out of their wife after smoking weed all day…”
Independent Nebraska U.S. Senate candidate Dan Osborn tweeted, “Hemp is a legal crop. Farmers grow it for rope, textiles, paper, building materials. Veterans and people with chronic pain use CBD products made from it. This last-minute ban would destroy a $28 billion industry, wipe out 95% of hemp businesses, and eliminate 300,000 American jobs. It would devastate rural farming communities across the country.”
