    / TOP THINGS TO KNOW

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) filed the Marijuana 1-to-3 Act in Congress, which would move cannabis to Schedule III as President Donald Trump separately considers an administrative rescheduling process.

The Drug Enforcement Administration launched a “drug slang” quiz to test people’s knowledge of marijuana, meth, fentanyl, MDMA and cocaine terminology.

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun (R) said federal marijuana rescheduling under the Trump administration “probably adds a little more fuel to the fire in terms of the speed with which” his state could legalize cannabis.

    • Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN) said, “I hope Indiana is never a state that legalizes marijuana, by the way.”

South by Southwest (SXSW) is accepting public votes on proposed cannabis and psychedelics-focused panels for the 2026 festival—with discussions on the need for marijuana clemency, putting cannabis products in convenience stores, the therapeutic potential of ibogaine to treat head trauma in athletes and even a psychedelic “puppet show.”

A new study shows that “medical cannabis has genuine therapeutic effects for pain management”—and that terpenoids are “key predictors of treatment response” as part of an entourage effect, while “THC and CBD provide limited predictive value” for relief.

    • “Pain relief can be predicted from cannabis chemical profiles that are unknown to patients, providing evidence for compound-specific therapeutic effects” which “emerge from specific combinations of compounds working in concert, rather than from any single component.”

A new study funded by the Department of Justice’s National Institute of Justice found “little to no support” for claims that Oregon’s now-repealed drug decriminalization law led to increased overdose deaths and crime.

    / FEDERAL

A federal judge rejected the Department of Homeland Security’s motion to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a Canadian cannabis harvesting equipment company CEO.

Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator Terrance Cole discussed his new role overseeing the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) tweeted, “I’m fighting for commonsense hemp regulation for Kentucky innovators like @hempwood. We make alcohol from corn, but we don’t regulate how much alcohol is in the corn. You regulate what’s being consumed. Washington’s approach to hemp should be similar.”

    / STATES

Florida’s attorney general is moving to ban the kratom-related compound 7-OH.

A former Kansas representative authored a post about his support for marijuana reform.

Missouri regulators are accepting applications for a marijuana revenue-funded grant program on substance use disorder issues.

California regulators sent an update on marijuana-related actions over the past quarter.

Rhode Island regulators revoked a marijuana cultivation license following an arrest.

The Utah Medical Cannabis Policy Advisory Board considered presentations on medical cannabis pricing and the decriminalization of flower combustion.

New York regulators posted an FAQ about the pausing of a deadline to implement marijuana seed-to-sale tracking.

New Jersey regulators published data on marijuana business licensing demographics.

Maryland regulators fined a marijuana business for allegedly violating advertising rules by indirectly targeting people under the age of 21.

Oregon regulators sent a newsletter with updates on the psilocybin services program.
