    / TOP THINGS TO KNOW

National Institute on Drug Abuse Director Nora Volkow suggested that government-run marijuana sales could be the best model, saying that “while state monopolies have not yet been tried with cannabis, they have proven effective at reducing the public health impacts of alcohol.”

The Florida campaign behind a marijuana legalization initiative that failed on the 2024 ballot has filed a revised measure it wants to put before voters in 2026.

The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action said the federal ban on gun ownership by marijuana consumers has “led to a confusing regulatory landscape” that has impacted Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

    • “Many of these individuals are otherwise law-abiding and productive members of their communities and want to exercise their right to keep and bear arms.”

The Food and Drug Administration is seeking comments from veterinarians and the broader public about the use of cannabis-derived products in animals, with a particular focus on CBD.

Washington State senators filed a bill to legalize psilocybin services through a new two-track program focused on therapy for people with mental health conditions as well as broader wellness.

A new federally funded study shows that “daily cannabis use was positively associated with daily” moderate-to-vigorous physical activity—smashing stereotypes about “lazy stoners”—though marijuana use is also tied to more alcohol and cigarette consumption.

    • “It may be that cannabis use increased [physical activity] enjoyment and/or subsequent feelings of psychological reward.”

National Cannabis Industry Association board member Khurshid Khoja argues in a new Marijuana Moment op-ed that attorneys whose motion led to the cancellation of cannabis rescheduling hearings engaged in a “procedural sideshow, rather than working constructively to secure desperately needed relief for the cannabis industry.”

Wild Montana, Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Trails Coalition and Montana State Parks Foundation are urging Gov. Greg Gianforte (R) and lawmakers not to divert marijuana tax revenue away from conservation programs.

    / FEDERAL

The Food and Drug Administration filed a Federal Register notice requesting “information on industry practices related to poppy seeds, such as information about growing, harvesting, processing, and distribution of poppy seeds, including industry practices to reduce the opiate alkaloid content of poppy seeds.”

An Indiana representative spoke about the benefits of legalizing marijuana.

Delaware’s outgoing top marijuana regulator said that legal recreational sales are on track to launch between April and June.

Minnesota regulators opened the window for prospective cannabis business license applicants to seek verification of their social equity status.

Oregon regulators published a bulletin about a voter-approved law requiring marijuana businesses to enter into labor peace agreements.

Ohio regulators are considering petitions to add new medical cannabis qualifying conditions.

California regulators posted new resources on pesticides and cannabis, product recalls and corrective action plans for remediation.

Rhode Island regulators will host a cannabis social equity focus group on Thursday.
