On Friday, April 23, 2024, lawmakers in Germany’s Federal Parliament, the Bundestag, approved a long-awaited adult-use cannabis legalization measure. The expected implementation date for the first provisions of the legalization measure is set for April 1, 2024. The successful vote in Germany came after roughly two and a half years of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach leading conversations and negotiations with heads of the European Union (EU). The purpose of the conversations was to determine what the EU would allow for Germany’s legalization model. EU agreements prohibit national adult-use cannabis sales, similar to what’s currently in place in Uruguay and Canada,…

It’s estimated that at least 39 million Americans live with migraines, though the number is likely higher due to lack of diagnosis or proper treatment. And those who experience migraines are well aware of how debilitating they can be, especially those who experience migraines on a consistent basis. Cannabis is already known to be beneficial for those who suffer from migraines, as it appears as a qualifying condition for a number of state medical programs. But of course, we’re still catching up on research surrounding cannabis as a whole, and there’s a lot we’re continuing to learn about cannabis and…

Two male Humpback whales were recently recorded having a homosexual encounter in the wild off the coast of Maui. According to a new study by the Pacific Whale Foundation published in Marine Mammal Science, humpback whales have been studied extensively but documented instances of reproductive actions have been exceedingly rare. That is until some photographers – Lyle Krannichfeld and Brandi Romano – caught two male humpbacks engaging in sexual contact right below their boat 2 kilometers west of the Molokini crater off the coast of Maui on January 19, 2022.  They sent their photos to scientists who recently confirmed in a…

Retail sales of beer declined in Canada following the legalization of the adult use marijuana market, according to data published last week in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence. A team of Canadian investigators analyzed alcohol sales in the years prior to and following legalization. They documented “modest [but] economically meaningful” declines in the sales of canned and kegged beer, but they did not identify a similar decline in sales of either bottled beer or spirits. The study’s authors concluded: “We found that non-medical cannabis legalization was associated with an immediate decline in beer sales. Furthermore, beer sales continued to…

The white ash conversation has been positively insufferable. Heady bois and cannabis connoisseurs from coast to coast have been posting videos of their ash on Instagram for what feels like years now, indicating that they’re smoking top shelf product solely based on the color of the ash. As much as I hate to disappoint, not only is white ash not an accurate metric of quality, it can be easily faked, gamed, cheated, duped and bamboozled using particular cultivation techniques, smoking methods, and as shown by recent court documents: adding small amounts of chalk to the rolling paper. Recently unsealed documents…
