My father busted me smoking cannabis exactly once, on the Fourth of July, 2003. I say “busted” in the sense that I was trying to not draw attention. Though I was a legal adult, this was in New Hampshire in the early 2000s, so nothing marijuana-related was legal. I had always been a nerdy kid (adding to the invisible forcefield that shields white dudes like myself from all suspicion) but had discovered cannabis a few years earlier, I found out I really enjoyed cannabis the summer I turned 17. That year, when my dad found me smoking weed on his porch on…

Legal As German cannabis legalization inevitably succeeds, it will provide a major boost to the rest of Europe’s outlook on cannabis reform. Published on July 5, 2024 The history of Europe’s cannabis reform movement will forever be measured by adult-use legalization in Germany. Germany, which implemented the first provisions of its new adult-use cannabis law on April 1 , will never hold the title of being the first to legalize cannabis nationwide on the European continent. However, German legalization is undeniably the most significant cannabis reform victory in Europe’s history, and possibly the world. Adults in Germany can now possess…

New Zealand researchers assessed responses to an online survey provided by 23,500 participants with a history of cannabis use and other substances. Respondents frequently reported that cannabis led to reductions in their use of other substances — a finding that is consistent with prior research. This substitution effect was most pronounced for alcohol, with 60 percent of subjects acknowledging that “using cannabis led…
