    / TOP THINGS TO KNOW

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein (D) said legalizing marijuana can help address public health risks from hemp products that are currently sold “without any enforceable labeling requirements”—arguing that the state’s “unregulated cannabis market is the Wild West, and it is crying out for order.”

The Louisiana Senate passed legislation to create a Task Force on Alternative Therapies for Veterans that is directed to “study whether certain psychedelic therapies may be beneficial to Louisiana veterans.”

The Maine legislature decided against enacting a bill to legalize possession of psilocybin, days after both the Senate and House of Representatives gave initial approval to the psychedelics measure.

Bipartisan Pennsylvania lawmakers are seeking cosponsors for a medical cannabis bill they plan to introduce to “provide much-needed clarity for both employers and employees regarding medical marijuana use in the workplace.”

Most fans of sports leagues like NBA, NFL, MLB and others say it’s “completely” or “mostly” acceptable for cannabis brands to sponsor teams, according to a new poll from Performance Research and Full Circle Research.

A new study on marijuana genetics suggests that incentives in the legal market—like pressure for plants to mature faster and produce more cannabinoids—may be leading to “a bottlenecking of cannabis genetics.”

    • “In 2025, just a handful of Cannabis cultivars are grown at all levels of the Post-Prohibition landscape. Most products are produced from just a handful of Cannabis cultivars which the large part of the market now considers to be generic agricultural commodities, perfectly suitable with each other.”

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) said that “the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Food and Drug Administration have held long-standing opinions that marijuana is a psychoactive drug that is both addictive and harmful” and that he is “glad” President Donald Trump proposed continuing his rider blocking Washington, D.C. from legalizing recreational cannabis sales.”

A study found that “compared with modes typically associated with flower products (i.e., bong-, joint-like modes), dabbing was associated with higher plasma THC concentrations and subjective effects, indicating greater THC exposure when using this mode and its associated products” but that “interestingly, dabbing and vaping exhibited more rapid reductions in levels of subjective intoxication over time, suggesting that higher levels of intoxication may not be sustained for these modes.”
